Bristol Temple Meads Station Remodelling and Regeneration

Bristol, UK · Ongoing (first phase £95m investment, Eastern Entrance opening 2026, roof refurbishment to finish summer 2025) · £95m (first phase investment), £23m (Eastern Entrance)

The judgement call

Account-gated at launch

* The project is central to the Bristol Temple Quarter regeneration programme, one of the largest in Europe. * The new Eastern Entrance will directly connect to the University of Bristol Enterprise Campus, significantly improving accessibility. * Painstaking phased work on the roof refurbishment to minimise impact on daily station operations. * Focus on preserving heritage while modernising the station for future demands.

Key engineering challenges

* Refurbishing a historic Grade I listed building (station roof) while maintaining station operations. * Constructing a complex 134m-long, 5,000m² temporary works deck above live rail lines and platforms for safe roof repairs. * Integrating new entrances and infrastructure into a densely populated urban area and existing station. * Managing extensive metallic and woodwork repairs on the Victorian roof structure.
